Jon Goes On…My Favorite Unconventional Christmas Movies

THE COUNTDOWN
5. Nightmare Before Christmas
“It has Christmas in the title, but it’s really a macabre musical that celebrates all holidays…especially Halloween.”

FAVORITE LINE: “Attacked by Christmas toys? That’s strange. That’s the second toy complaint we’ve had.”

4. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
“It was originally released on Christmas and it has a Christmas-y feel. Santa Claus (or Father Christmas) is a character in the story…he gives Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy their weapons.”

FAVORITE LINE: “Always winter, never Christmas.”

3. Gremlins
“The plot starts off as a Christmas present gone wrong, but the movie is really a dark comedy, creature-feature rather than a traditional Christmas movie. The creatures wreak havoc on a small town.”

FAVORITE LINE: “But the most important rule, the rule you can never forget, no matter how much he cries, no matter how much he begs…never feed him after midnight.”

2. Die Hard
One of THE greatest action movie series, ever…Bruce Willis at his best. I enjoy the Christmas music soundtrack while Bruce single-handedly takes down the terrorists. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!”

FAVORITE LINE: “Now I have a machine gun, ho, ho, ho!”

1. Lord of the Rings
“It’s a tradition for my sister, dad and I to watch the complete trilogy every year at Christmas time. To me, it’s the ultimate Christmas film…my personal White Christmas. Isn’t this what makes a holiday special… special?”

FAVORITE LINE: “One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness, bind them.”
